The Accounting programme of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State has been accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Speaking while presenting the certificate of accreditation to the University, the Association’s Education and Learning Manager, Mr. Victor Ayoola said that Elizade University was the second university in Nigeria to achieve full accreditation status from the professional body.
Mr. Ayoola said that the University has distinguished itself with a vibrant Accounting programme and quality academics. He added that the accreditation, which came with five exemptions, would enable graduates of the programme to practice accounting globally. The Education Manager who informed that the Association operates in 192 countries of the world, congratulated the Management of the University on the rare feat. He enjoined the students in Accounting and other Management Science programmes to make the most use of the opportunity of the accreditation.
In his response, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Theophilus Fadayomi described the successful outing of the Institution in the accreditation exercise as a reward for doing things right. He affirmed that the University which also has full National Universities Commission’s (NUC) accreditation for all its programmes, takes the accreditation by professional bodies seriously. The Don maintained that the idea of running professional programmes was to enable students to pursue professional qualifications simultaneously with their degrees.
Prof. Fadayomi revealed that the students who started the professional exams did well in the papers they wrote during their last long vacation. He said with Elizade University being already made an Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAN) Centre, students in Accounting and Finance would have the opportunity of investing their time in right ventures.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor added that efforts were on top gear to introduce more professional programmes like the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) professional examinations for Mass Communication students, the Institute of Personnel Management and the Nigerian Institute of Management for students in Human Resource Management, CISCO for students in Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Information Communication Technology, among others.
