Applied Mathematician — Climate & Health Modelling
Dr. Gbenga J. Abiodun is an applied mathematician whose research focuses on climate–health interactions, mathematical modelling, artificial intelligence, and infectious disease epidemiology.
He earned his Master’s (2012) and PhD (2017) degrees in Applied Mathematics from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. During his doctoral studies, he participated in the Young Scientists Summer Program at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Austria.
He later completed postdoctoral research through the University of California Global Health Institute (UCGHI) Fogarty GloCal Health Fellowship at the Foundation for Professional Development, Pretoria, South Africa. He attended research workshops at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Italy, and the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), Japan, and actively-participated in the Japan–South Africa Infectious Diseases Early Warning System (iDEWS) project.
Dr. Abiodun has published over 35 peer-reviewed articles supporting climate adaptation, disease-early-warning systems, and public health policy across Africa.
