Our Philosophy

The philosophy of the B.Sc (Business Administration) Programme is aimed at developing the total being. The programme is designed to prepare the students with the knowledge and skills to become effective leaders and decision makers in the dynamically changing business world of today and tomorrow. The four or three-year curriculum focuses on both a local and global perspective with emphasis on the pragmatic application of knowledge. Our students will apply what they have learnt to the needs of the business community. The Curriculum provides solid foundation which prepares them for work (at both private and public sector) professional accomplishment and graduate studies both locally, national and internationally.

Welcome to the Department of Business Administration. The Department is aimed at developing the students for current and future challenges in the world of Business. In this sense, the curriculum of the department is designed to prepare the students for challenges with the knowledge and skills to become effective leaders and decision makers in the ever-changing world. The B.Sc (Hons) Business Administration programme which is domiciled in the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Humanities, Social and Management Sciences took off in the year 2012 with eight (8) students and Dr. Ruth Garret as Head of Department. The department has continued to grow with increasing number of staff and students.


Aim and Objective

The specific objectives of the Bachelor’s degree programme are to: i. Concentrate on conceptual knowledge, processes, understanding the economic, financial, ethical, social, legal, organizational influences, as well as the importance of building strong inter and intra-personal communication skills; ii. Develop the skills needed for recognizing and defining business challenges as well as how to make appropriate result-oriented responses and decisions; iii. Foster, within the students, an awareness of and sensitivity to environmental factors and conditions (local and global and their impact on managerial / administrative practices, processes and decisions; iv. Develop leadership and relationship skills which are needed for all organizational stakeholders; and v. Develop clear principles and values to guide ethical conduct both at the individual and corporate level of the organization.

In this sense, the curriculum of the department is designed to prepare the students for challenges with the knowledge and skills to become effective leaders and decision makers in the ever-changing world. The department is blessed with energetic and highly qualified academics with several years of experiences in both local and international academics and industry. The department focuses on local and global perspectives of business dynamics with significant emphasis on the pragmatic application of knowledge. Our graduates will not only have the knowledge but also the ability to apply what they have learnt to the needs of the business community. The specific objectives and aspirations of the department are to: i) Inculcate in our students the conceptual knowledge of the methodologies and processes for understanding the economic, financial, ethical, social, legal and other environmental influences that impact on business and industry. ii) Develop the skills needed for recognizing, analysing and taking appropriate action-oriented decisions on the challenges of business and community at large. iii) Foster in the students an awareness of and sensitivity to the dynamics of doing business in a globalised world. iv) Develop leadership and relationship building skills which are needed for working with organizational stakeholders. v) Develop clear principles and values to guide ethical conduct both at the individual and corporate levels of organizations.
