POLICY ON THE USE OF ICT FACILITIES
1. PURPOSE
The University provides computing equipment and access to the internet to enable
staff to carry out their work for the University and students to study without stress.
The purpose of this Internet Usage Policy is to define what the University considers
appropriate usage of the Information Technology (IT) Equipment, ELIZADE UNIVERSITY
Network, Internet and how access to the Internet will be managed and monitored.
Having such a policy in place helps to protect the university, the employee and
student; the employee and the student will be aware of prohibition and/or restriction
placed on browsing certain sites or downloading files. Users of IT infrastructure in EU
will also know that the policy must be adhered to for fewer security risks to EU arising
from employee or student negligence. On the other hand, employees and students
will normally be held personally liable for damages caused by any violations of these
rules and regulations and this may include appropriate disciplinary and/or legal action
leading up to and including termination of employment or studentship. All employees
and students are required to acknowledge receipt and confirm that they have
understood and agreed to abide by the rules hereunder. The ELIZADE UNIVERSITY,
ILARA-MOKIN Internet Usage Policy is therefore an important document that must be
signed by all employees and students upon starting work/study.
2. SCOPE OF APPLICABILITY
This Internet Usage Policy applies to all Elizade University staff and students who have
access through the University IT infrastructure including but not limited to Equipment,
computers (Desktop and laptops, smartphones, tablets and other forms of mobile
devices) and EU Network to access the Internet and Social Networks for use in the
performance of their work or study. It may also include contractors and visitors to the
university using Elizade University IT infrastructure for their business transactions with
the university.
The use of the Internet by employees and students of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin
is permitted and encouraged where such use supports the goals and objectives of the
University.
However, all employees and students must remember that access to the Internet
through Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin is a privilege and must conform to the policies
laid down by the University concerning IT Equipment, Computer, Email, Internet usage
and Social networks.
3. DEFINITION OF SOME TERMS
3.1 IT Equipment and Computer - includes any electronic device provided by the
University, or connected to its networks, which is capable of accessing the internet.
3.2 Internet Usage - for the purpose of this policy, internet usage includes accessing
websites, email, peer to peer networking and data sharing and "internet" has a
corresponding meaning.
3.3 Inappropriate material - is a material which could reasonably be described as
unsuitable or offensive having regard to the aims and objectives of ELIZADE
UNIVERSITY, and this may include, in particular, materials which are pornographic or
are otherwise objectionable.
IT Equipment, Computer, Email, Internet Usage and Social Networking in Elizade University

Employees and students of ELIZADE UNIVERSITY, ILARA-MOKIN are expected to use
the Internet and network facilities on campus responsibly and productively. Internet access
may be limited to job-study-social networking related activities only.

Job-study related activities may include research and educational tasks that may be found
via the Internet that would help in an employee's / student's role.

All Internet data that are composed, transmitted and/or received by Elizade University's
computer systems are considered to belong to the University, and recognized as part of its
official data. It is therefore subject to disclosure for legal reasons or to other appropriate
third parties.

It is assumed (unless otherwise stated) that the equipment, services and technology used to
access the internet by an employee of Elizade University during official working hours are
the property of the University and it reserves the right to monitor Internet traffic and as well
monitor and access data that are composed, sent or received through its online connections.

If you seize to be an employee/student of Elizade University for any reason, the University
will require that you return any ICT equipment officially issued to you to assist in your
work on your last day of work in the University.

Employees and students may use personal electronic equipment such as personal laptops,
smart phones etc, to access the Internet through Elizade University network. However,
Elizade University reserves the right to monitor Internet traffic and as well monitor and
access data that are composed, sent or received through its online connections.
Acceptable use
- Use the Internet only as needed for work or limited personal use when essential.

Elizade University understands that some staff may require the use of the Social Media to
enhance their job performance such as in the recruitment of staff and prospective students
and propagating the Elizade University Brand.
- The use of social media and internet should be done responsibly.

Help Elizade University to maintain compliance with software licensing - if in doubt, the
employee/student should ask the ICT Unit for assistance.
Unacceptable use of the Internet by Employees and Students of Elizade University

Stealing, using, disclosing or distributing someone else's or University Logins or Passwords
to those who are not authorized to use them.
- Use passwords or encryption keys unknown to Management.

Sending or posting discriminatory, harassing, bullying or threatening messages or images
on the Internet via Elizade University's email service with or without intent to blackmail.
- Using computers to perpetrate any form of fraud, and/or software, film or music piracy.

Downloading, copying or pirating software and electronic files that are copyrighted or
without authorization.

Sharing confidential material, intellectual property, secrets, or proprietary information
outside of the University without authorization.
- Obtain malicious access to Internet sites by cracking or hacking into unauthorized websites.

Sending or posting information that is defamatory to Elizade University, its officials,
employees, services, colleagues and/or students.

Introducing malicious software onto Elizade University network and/or jeopardizing the
security of Elizade University's electronic communications systems.

Sending or posting chain letters, solicitations, or advertisements not related to the aims and
objectives or activities of Elizade University.
- Passing of personal views as representing those of Elizade University.
- Retrieving such materials from the Internet using Elizade University resources which:
- are sexually explicit, offensive, obscene or pornographic.

are racist, sexist or which may otherwise cause offence or be construed as
harassment.

infringes someone else's legal rights, including copyright, patent or trademark
rights of any other person or organisation.
- are defamatory/attacks/denigrates any person, group or organization.

would cause offence on the grounds of race, colour, religion, political beliefs, ethnic
origin, sexual orientation, gender, age, disability, nationality, marital status,
membership of the traveler community or intending to, undergoing or having
undergone treatment to change sex.

are otherwise unlawful or could constitute criminal offence or which could damage
the reputation of Elizade University,.

It shall therefore be the responsibility of Elizade University ICT Unit to monitor and
manage IT infrastructure and internet usage in accordance with this policy. This shall
include:
- Tracking usage and identifying any concerns.

Establishing a system for staff, students, contractors and visitors to acknowledge the policy
when they log on for the first time and for this to be repeated annually.

ICT Unit will advise the relevant Head of Department/Unit and the Human Resource
Directorate of any suspected breaches of this policy.

Any concerns will be investigated in accordance with the extant regulations on staff/student
discipline in the University.

Acts of violations of this policy shall be viewed as serious misconduct and shall be subject
to appropriate disciplinary actions being taken against erring staff or student.
