About B.Sc Economics
The Economics programme aims at producing graduates who are equipped with critical skills, attitudes and abilities to identify and analyze economic issues and problems with a view to finding solutions. They are trained to have both the qualitative and quantitative skills for analyzing socio-economic data, communicating concisely the results to a wide audience, including those with no training in economics; thinking critically about the limits of economic analysis in a broader socio-economic context; and drawing economic policy inferences, and recognizing the potential constraints in their implementation. The department has rich set of courses, we have also developed standard undergraduate programmes in all three functions of its teaching, research, and community service. The Department hopes to prepare graduates and post-graduates that are ready to meet the challenges of the new millennium. Our programmes in the departments are well-tailored to meet the needs and aspirations of the labour market as well as a growing body of budding entrepreneurs.

Aim and Objective
The main objectives of the programme is to develop highly competent and versatile professional economists through the provision of relevant academic and professional courses which are required in order to meet the challenges of the Nigerian economy in the context of globalization. In other words, the ultimate objective of the programme is to continuously produce professional economists who are well armed to play positive roles towards the social and economic advancement of Nigeria, Africa and the world.

Admission Requirements

The Department of Economics is highly selective and only those students meeting the academic requirements will be accepted into the B.Sc. Economics. Candidates for admission into the four-year degree programme in Economics should: (i) Possess the Senior Secondary School Certificate, General Certificate of Education, by WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or their equivalents with at least five credit passes, at not more than two sittings including Mathematics, English Language, Economics, one social science subject and any other subject. (ii) In addition, candidates must have acceptable passes in UTME. The UTME subjects must be in the following: English Language, Mathematics, Economics; plus any other subject. Admission Requirements for the Three-Year Programme (Direct Entry) Candidates for the Direct Entry admission shall possess five Credits, in GCE, SSCE by WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or their equivalents, of which at least two shall be at the Advanced Level, provided that such passes are not counted at both levels of the examination. For emphasis, credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and Economics are required. OR Candidates must possess five Credits which must include English Language, Mathematics and Economics in GCE, SSCE by WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or their equivalents; at most two sittings, and Ordinary National Diploma (O.N.D) at least with upper credit in Accounting, and other related disciplines from approved Nigerian Polytechnic. OR Candidates with final certificate of professional bodies such as Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) in addition to five credits passes which must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, at not more than two sittings.
