We are delighted to furnish you with information that will assist you in achieving your goal to study at Elizade University.
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science was established in 2012 to contribute to ELIZADE UNIVERSITY’s (EU) mission to produce self-reliant graduates imbued with requisite skills, competences and ability to be key players in the nation’s quest for socio-economic technological development. To achieve this, the Department has recruited staff within and outside Nigeria, and the Computer Science research laboratories are well-equipped with modern scientific equipment. In accordance, the program maintains a level of structural and content-based flexibility demanded by a changing world.
The first Head of the Department was Prof. Peter Oriogun (blessed memory) who spearheaded the mounting of two undergraduate programmes: BSc Computer Science and BSc Mathematics guided by the NUC Benchmarks for Minimum Academic Standards. At the inception of the programme, only six (6) students were admitted. In 2012, the Department recruited Dr. Titilayo Akinwunmi, whose (PhD) from University of Ibadan. Others that join subsequently are Dr. Olatunde Akinsanya (PhD) LAUTECH, Ogbomosho; Dr. Kehinde Agbele (PhD) University of the Western Cape, Cape Town, South Africa; Dr. Bukola Onyekwelu (PhD) FUTA, Dr. Isaac Olopade (PhD) LAUTECH, Ogbomosho, Dr. Joshua Tom (PhD) FUTA, and Mr. Olusola Babalola (MSc) Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, South Africa, The male to female lecturer gender ratio is 9:3.
The B.Sc. Computer Science was one of the degree programmes (courses) that was approved by the NUC during the 2015 accreditation exercise with a total score of 93.3%. During the current 2019/2020 academic session, we enrolled 13 fresh students in the first year (100 Level); 32 students in the second year (200 Level); 30 students in the third year (300 Level); this was followed by 30 students in the fourth year (400 Level). We currently have 13 students starting 100 Level, 24 students in 200 Level, 30 students starting 300 Level, 33 students at 400 Level. The Department has graduated four sets of students 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 in Computer Science programme with different class of degrees ranging from First Class to Third Class. The Department has been granted permission to commence postgraduate programmes leading to the award of PGD, M.Sc. and PhD in Computer Science.
The curriculum of the Computer Science emphasizes the art, science, engineering and technology of computing and information systems.
The Aim and Objectives of Bachelors honours degree programme in Computer Science include:
