Our Philosophy

The curriculum of the Computer Science emphasizes the art, science, engineering and technology of computing and information systems.

About

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science was established in 2012 to contribute to ELIZADE UNIVERSITY’s (EU) mission to produce self-reliant graduates imbued with requisite skills, competences and ability to be key players in the nation’s quest for socio-economic technological development. To achieve this, EU management started equipping its Computer Science research laboratories with modern scientific equipment and also recruited staff within and outside Nigeria on inception. In accordance, the program intends to maintain a level of structural and content-based flexibility demanded by a changing world. The first Head of the Department was Prof. Peter Oriogun (blessed memory) who spearheaded the mounting of two undergraduate programmes: BSc Computer Science and BSc Mathematics guided by the NUC Benchmarks for Minimum Academic Standards. At the inception of the programme, only six (6) students were admitted. In 2012, the Department recruited Dr. Titilayo Akinwunmi, whose (PhD) from University of Ibadan. Others that join subsequently are Dr. Olatunde Akinsanya (PhD) LAUTECH, Ogbomosho; Dr. Kehinde Agbele (PhD) University of the Western Cape, Cape Town, South Africa; Dr. Bukola Onyekwelu (PhD) FUTA, Dr. Isaac Olopade (PhD) LAUTECH, Ogbomosho, Dr. Joshua Tom (PhD) FUTA, and Mr. Olusola Babalola (MSc) Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, South Africa, The male to female lecturer gender ratio is 9:3. The B.Sc. Computer Science was one of the degree programmes (courses) that was approved by the NUC during the 2015 accreditation exercise with a total score of 93.3%. During the current 2019/2020 academic session, we enrolled 13 fresh students in the first year (100 Level); 32 students in the second year (200 Level); 30 students in the third year (300 Level); this was followed by 30 students in the fourth year (400 Level). We currently have 13 students starting 100 Level, 24 students in 200 Level, 30 students starting 300 Level, 33 students at 400 Level. The Department has graduated four sets of students 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 in Computer Science programme with different class of degrees ranging from First Class to Third Class. The Department has been granted permission to commence postgraduate programmes leading to the award of PGD, M.Sc. and PhD in Computer Science.

Aim and Objective

Specifically the objectives of the Department include: (i) To create in students the awareness of and enthusiasm of computer science and its capabilities; (ii) To involve the students in an intellectually stimulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying; (iii) To provide a broad and balanced foundation in computer science knowledge and practical skills; (iv) To develop in students through an education in computer science a range of transferrable applicable skills of information technology to all aspects of human endeavours; (v) To generate in students an appreciation of the importance of computer in an industrial, economic, technological and social context; and (vi) To provide students with knowledge and skills in computer science or multi-disciplinary studies involving computer science.

What we do

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science was established in 2012 to contribute to ELIZADE UNIVERSITY’s (EU) mission to produce self-reliant graduates imbued with requisite skills, competences and ability to be key players in the nation’s quest for socio-economic technological development. The Computer Science research laboratories are well-equipped with modern scientific equipment to aid in achieving this mission. Also, adequate and experienced staff are on ground to ensure the smooth running of the department. In accordance, the program intends to maintain a level of structural and content-based flexibility demanded by a changing world.
